Expect Great Things

Next week I have a trip planned. It didn't originally begin as a trip I sought to take, but I'm going nonetheless. The best part about this trip is that I've managed to sync this with my work in my school and our "becoming global citizens" mission statement. I work in a technology magnet school and for someone who writes a blog and maintains an online presence, this is the best of both worlds. When I throw in my fascination with photography I come up with three worlds. On top of that, I'm studying weather effects and coordinating with the science classrooms in my school and Skyping with students for an experiment that the students can do with their teachers. Four worlds. I am lucky that all these worlds converge.

Alaska looks just like this, right?

I'm going to Alaska. I must be the only idiot in the United States who goes North in the Spring. Everyone else I know is in some sunny Southern state right now for Spring Break. Instead of putting away my winter clothes at this time of year I went out and bought snow boots and called my friend, Becky, who is a skier, and asked to borrow snow pants and parkas and ski masks. Then, out of the kindness of their hearts and Twitter account manager, Russell Women Athletics sent me some warm pants to wear in Alaska. Check out their Facebook page and see their cool clothes and running playlists. Quite awesome, I think.

This is going to be amazing and I'd be remiss if I didn't thank GoPro cameras for this opportunity to embark on a great adventure. Not only will they teach me to use their cameras and I'll get a personalized lesson, but they will give me one to bring back home. As a technology school educator, this is just about the best gift ever. My plan is to take it to school and teach the students how to use it. Our students have the opportunity to work with cameras and uploading for videos and other programming applications, so I truly can't wait to share it with my school. If you didn't click on that link maybe this will tempt you: every day Go Pro gives away one of everything they make to a lucky winner. One of everything. This is a company doing it right.

My previous Life List included visiting places that were all tropical and I shouldn't have left Alaska off my list because as I've been researching it I am realizing that I may have missed out on a chance to see raw nature do its thing. This trip is going on the list just so I can cross it off someday because I expect great things from this new experience.

Expect great things. A new mantra for my life. I'll be updating on my trip and you can follow this list here on Twitter. I'm joining other bloggers and photographers and scientists and world travelers and self-described nerds.

I am excited to see the pics and hear more. Looks like a cool camera, I need a good tough one and the prices aren't too bad it looks like either.

I'm envious! I hear Alaska is gorgeous. You are, indeed, one lucky woman.

Ooh, sounds exciting! As somebody who finds hot & humid American summers hard going I think it makes perfect sense to go north for your holidays. At the very least you'll be away from the tourists. I personally recommend putting Iceland on your Bucket List if you discover you love Alaska (it has that rugged nature thing going on too, but with amazing natural thermal spas!).
Safe travels and may you take lots of wonderful pictures.

I guessed Alaska from the picture--damn, I'm good.

Have a great time on your trip; I'm looking forward to hearing about it. Oh, and eat a ton of seafood please (:
