Living Room: The Painting Part

How mad are you at Noreen? MAD, right? She can be so awful sometimes making you wait a whole day before updating about projects.

But, you're back! I'm so glad, because I wanted to show more photos of what happened in my living room. (Not a gory murder scene. I promise.)

The first thing we did was paint the fireplace and Mallory suggested we pick colors out of a color family that would help tone down the 90s-era looking green tile on the fireplace. We stayed in the Warm Neutral family of colors by Sherwin Williams (they're not sponsoring this post, I swear) and used Urbane Bronze and Retreat.

Here's the original fireplace that I sanded down and cleaned up all the dust as I went along.

We used Urbane Bronze for the fireplace.

Retreat was for one wall only to create a dramatic effect.

NOTE: Putting on the second coat made ALL the difference. For a while I was worried about how green-y it was looking and Mallory, Boss Lady Supreme, told me to "Chill, mom. Put on the second coat." Every time I worried about how it was looking I sent her an updated picture and she kept encouraging me to just do it.

The first coat looked like this but it's pretty deceiving because I used a green painter's tape and kept putting my favorite vase back on the mantle to see how it would look. Mallory suggests we put on a semi-gloss coat as well and we'll probably do that soon. "It's basically like a top coat for your nails," she told me.

Here's the finished version with 2 coats of paint for both the fireplace and the wall. You can see the contrast with the walls we left yellow (and I have no idea what the name of that color is because it was painted when we moved in).

After taking this picture, The Cuban put on one more coat because you can see where he went side-to-side instead of up-and-down directly above the mantle.

Here's a sneak peek at the curtains that Mallory found. They are Farrah Fretwork window panels made by Threshold and can be found at Target (another place that is not sponsoring this post, I SWEAR).

Tomorrow I'll post pics of the final look in the room including the new lamp shades, pillows, and a corner chair we got. Plus! I've been hanging onto some paintings I bought based on a piece I wrote THREE YEARS AGO that Mallory finally framed and hung up for me as part of this job. Every time I thought about doing it I talked myself out of it because I assumed that I would mess it up. I scared myself into paralysis and couldn't pull the trigger on it.

Luckily, my designer daughter did.

KSID Interiors helped with this project. If you're local to me and in need of interior design, give them a call. I hear one of the gals working there is adorable.
